Welcome to my virtual campfire.

Greetings and welcome to this space for me, for us, to share the love of camping, being in nature, and maybe making some art inspired by some magical places.

I am an adult female, mother of three grown children, life-long artist and nature lover. I have a full time job that has the annoying tendency to limit the desired frequency of my excursions to the great “out there”. I was born in Gastonia, NC, living there and Charlotte, NC for many years before moving to beautiful Rochester, NY. Our family then made the dramatic move to Kaneohe, HI. Quite the spectrum of climates and cultures. After an unexpected ending to a long marriage, I happily made my way back to NC to be near family and start a new life, proving you can go home again.

It was then in 2011 that I bought my first, all-my-own, tent. We had done a few family camping trips in the past. Some with scout groups. But I was never in control of the time or destination. I was really pretty green. It was truly exhilarating, exciting, and empowering to be able to choose my own adventure, limited only by how far I was willing to drive. I am still using the same tent I bought those several years ago. Most often I am solo camping with my Corgi/Sheltie adventure pup, Josey. Other time with family or friends. I have no qualms about being out there alone. Not stupid or careless about location selection, mind you.

Don't jump to conclusions. I do NOT claim to be a camping expert. I’ve learned a bit over the years since I discovered that I could have a little “house” that would take me all kinds of places. All sorts of exciting places, meeting some of the best people I’ve found anywhere. It is this collection of stories and experiences that I am excited to share here in the blog section.

So, if you’ve never done this kind of thing before, maybe you will feel empowered. Inspired. Encouraged. Truly, there is no wrong way to camp- car camping, backpacking, tent, RV, or hammock. You can go solo or with a group. You might surprise yourself. I certainly have. Enjoy the posts and stories. Join in. See you by the the fire.
